If you're like me, you have a dark obsession with an online map or two. But where do you go to find that info? It's not all thrilling and happy here, I've tested many online map providers and SkyVector is the one that has always given me my best results, easy maps to import and export, great API features, and the best quality (in my opinion).
When SkyVector's developers need more assistance designing a map for them, they contact me! They've recently been in the market for a new filing format and I think they found what they were looking for in the Open Cycle Maps (OCM)
This page is intended to provide a step by step guide on how to convert your Shared Drive or Google Drive (GDx) OCM files into KML files (.kml or.mqz). This file format is used by Skyvector.com and while it does differ slightly from their own file layout, it's the one they require for their maps. A GDx file was originally used by Google Earth Pro to keep its files small and efficient. This file format is not available anywhere else.
In order to get started, you simply need OCM files of a specific format (which SkyVector provides with free of charge) and you download these from SkyVector's direct Links section. You will need to download GridOCM.zip (from the Charts and Maps section) and drop your OCM files into that zip. The process is as simple as that! d2c66b5586
