Magicl was at times related to the practical kabbalah of the Jews in East-Central Europe. This meant that kabbalah was interpreted as a tool that could empower a magical leader, and there was a great demand for people that could lead an army or establish a political power. These assistants would guide the righteous in their proselytizing while they were in the grave. They would also guide and inspire the righteous when they awoke for the Heavenly banquet. They were also tasked with cursing the evil.
